Weren't the invasors in the first movie like migratory grasshoppers? Flying from planet to planet and stealing it's natural ressources? And wasn't it the entire population of that alien species on the ships so that we could say it was a battle between two species?

to this day my family rush to say the "today we celebrate our independance day" line after every bad speech in movies we watch together. Also, it's one of my mother's most embarrassing purchases. She bought this as her first movie she got with her own money, in a foil special case too.

Why didn't Jeff goldblum visit the ship that had landed? It was explained but you didn't listen. It was in a country controlled by a warlord and did not let people see it. The big black dude with the swords? He became leader of the country when his father died.

Probably the laziest written movie I watched.

In Spaceballs Mel Brooks’ says “See you in Spaceballs 2 - the search for more cash”. This poke at Hollywood shows why films like this exist. Recently the same can be said of every shit reboot also.

Growing up in Country Australia with a single mum and two brothers, we accidentally picked this movie up on day from blockbuster (showing my age there), not thinking much of it. Man oh man, did we love this stupid film! Takes me back to the early 2000's. Good memories of us laughing at how silly, absurd and utterly American this movie was haha!

I'd like to point out that no one knows if any planet has a molten core. As far as I am concerned, it's empty void or hell. At least on our planet that is, just like the Bible says

They do explain a lot of the plot in the movie, so the proper response isn't 'who knows', but rather 'who cares'

One thing all these types of film don’t consider is that it is far easier to destroy a planet that is occupied by destroying another one in the same star system and just throw the whole system’s balance into chaos.

I love the Independence Day. Together with Battleship, a must watch for that brainless film night. Just switch off and roll with it. But insurgence? I suffered through it once, and that was enough.

Considering how this movie was released during the 2016 election it was obvious they were trying to make a reference to Hillary as being the future president of the USA by having a woman play as the president in this movie.

I thought the gravitational pull coming from the ship was some type of weapon used to inflict maximum damage on a grander scale.

i often asked myself in the past .. who the hell comes up with these stories? especially for sequels. it's almost like children came up with these ideas. and the ones who then say "great work, let's make this movie!" are even worse xD

The sequel should of been easy to make and been successful I still don’t understand how they fucked it up. I’m sad they failed because the really could of made a nice trilogy out of this. The Chinese need to stay out of our movies there communists propaganda ruins everything.

If there's one thing I admit was legitmately great about both movies, is the aliens designs. Not as good or iconis as Xenomorphs or Yautjas but manage to look cool. I dig the first movie but too bad they're stuck in that dumpster fire that is the sequel.

Watched Independence Day the other day. Had some deleted scenes on it. They found that the alien ship at Area 51 was the ship that mankind used to base all our computers and electronics off of. The computers are so how similar. If they would have kept that bit in it would have made the virus crap make sense.

It just looked like crap from the previews, but for all the CGI in the first film there was still interesting characters and development, so the viewers had an interest in the characters stories and there motivations to fight the aliens. But long story short the characters just weren’t interesting.

Will Smith could have saved this movie. Not by himself of course, but it would have helped draw focus away from the... err... plot.

This movie was just the Destiny 2 video game in movie form.

Unfortunately they did not realize what a drill the size of a country that literally broke into the core would do to the stability of the entire fucking planet.

As a geologist major at HSU What makes the earth special. Is that It is the only one we had discovered to date with a rock cycle. Which is primarily caused by our iron core. So...... No.. There's one earth.

Why watch carefully framed and pleasingly executed explosions of flame and light, bursting out of individual landmarks of deap patriotic meaning and psychological importance, when you can just see them get picked up and thrown on top of eachother at once with all the majesty or shock of a toddler knocking over a Lego set?(!)
