The 13th Doctor - A Legacy Of Failure

So with the recent news of Jodie Whittaker quitting the role of Doctor Who, I thought now would be a good time to think about the legacy she leaves behind her.

I never thought I'd stop watching Doctor Who. I've watched and rewatched it since I found Tom Bakers Doctor on PBS in the early 1980's. Sure there were show that were boring of uninteresting but over all a great show with interesting characters and stories. But after the Universe Talking Frog Episode, that was it, so I never saw the true decline and was spared the tragic trainwreck that was the Timeless Child. Maybe they'll RetCon it that it was all a fever dream of Capaldi's regeneration and move on. I'm always willing to give it another chance. I'm not sure how three of the top Sci-Fi properties were taken over by talentless hacks all at about the same time. Was no one else available? Was it a plot to ruin them all? Why?

The weird thing is they made Doctor Who way less diverse, complex and exciting despite increasing "diversity". Doctor who always had LGBTQI+ friendly characters, a variety of races, genders and species (ALL COMPETENT) even in season one. Adding "woke diversity" merely made all non PC characters incompetent pointless meme material.

I'd have to agree, the reboot of the series with Christopher Eccleston was an ok start but his accent was a bit to localised & he reminded me more of a skinhead who pinched the TARDIS rather than an ancient time traveller, but you have to start somewhere. I persevered & then we got David Tennant & I was 13 again, the Doctor was back. With Peter Capaldi, it started going bad, sorry Peter I initially blamed you, but after reading many comments online the mass majority of fingers were pointing to the writers & directors, & the penny dropped, you can't polish a turd. I'm not even going to comment on that woman, the adds for the show were enough to make me just give up, so thanks BBC, you got an amazing much loved series & drove it into the river Shit.

I'm always amused by the, if you don't like it your a misogynist argument. I'm not a star trek fan, I watched it as kid, and watched the first two movies, I am a sci-fi fan, and enjoyed the first movie as much as the second, for it's sense of intelligent sci-fi. Dare I make a alien, aliens analogy? But if it's on, and the first 15 minutes catches me, I'll watch it. So Voyager, a Star Trek where the commander of a Star Ship, is a woman: Commander Janeway. I don't remember any controversy about her being a woman and in charge of a Starship and it's crew. (There might have been some), But whatever, I don't sit there thinking, this is unrealistic; she seems like the sort of powerful woman who might be in charge, and intellectual and determined enough to be an effective commander. If I met such a character at a party, and she told me she commanded one of her majesty's destroyers or aircraft carriers, I wouldn't be that surprised. But like Margaret Thatcher before her, she reveals the lie that feminists want a strong determined womanhood, they really want a Marxist slave to promote their doctrine, woman, man and whatever, they don't really care.

Chibnall is the definition of woke, his utterly self righteous attempts at being politically correct have stripped all of the natural diversity out if the show. Moffat and Russel T davies spent years sensitively portraying difficult topics and moral choices to the viewer. It has dealt with so many issues over the years so well! But Chibnall’s attempts are damaging not only to the show but to kids as well. He’s basically telling us that shallow token character’s are ok! Cough cough Yaz and Ryan... And that a preachy, unsympathetic, insensitive, selfish Doctor that bull dozers everyone elses morals in favour of their own superior ones without question is ok. (karen anyone?). The Doctor always questioned what was right or wrong, it’s not a simple question. He would sacrifice his own morals to protect the innocents, even if it destroyed him to do it. When he went too far and thought his morals were superior there was usually a companion or another ordinary person their to humble him and he’d be a better person just for them. That’s all gone now.

I think 13th doctor has its own taste as its own. And as the doctor is, it has different charcters which some are more emotional than the other. Despite smith being the most emphatic one, I think the trait in the 13th is awkwardness. And nothing is wrong with that so many things can be developed out of that. The only thing that feels like a big jump was the introduction of the child of time and that the doctor was not a Gallifreyan. Its a big leap... I don't think this might be wise, but in the management level might look as the next breakthrough. Despite this, now it all depends on how these elements would be developed later on. But though ps honestly Chibnal could make a better special christmas than "Another" "Daleks Invasion due to the careless nature of humans" I would suggest first giving reason why human tend to forget. You could say the dalek has elements like those aliens that makes you forget about them after you look at away from them. At least something to grab the fans. All in all I would say in my own perspective revolution of the daleks can be written better than this. And dont forget when Ryan chose to leave the doctor, just because of ten months of pause. I mean I know that ten month is a long time, probably. But no one "leave" the doctor because of ten months of a break. I mean c'mon this is "The Doctor" not just another mate that you think "Well I must move on, better focus on my life" ( Except Martha Jones leaving the doctor, that is assumably still relatable because she wants certainty with someone she can fall in love to, and the doctor can not give that to her which reinforce the contuinity that the doctor though look like human but IS NOT a human)

'The show was always told through the white male gaze.' So we just going to pretend that the companions didn't exist? I'd say they were just as crucial to the show as The Doctor was. Rose Tyler, probably one of the most iconic roles in British TV history, Donna Noble, one of my favourite characters in the entire damn show, Sarah Jane Smith, who had an entire spin-off series about her, Amy Pond, hell, what about MARTHA JONES? You know, the black female character that actually took centre stage in several episodes where The Doctor himself had very minimal appearances? (Last of the Time Lords, anyone?) So, basically, you're full of shit, Jodie.

I hope they replace her with Rocket Raccoon. ;) But more seriously, it _could_ have worked if 1) the actress they picked was picked because they thought she would simply be a great Doctor and 2) if they had done it as a lighthearted "and now for something completely different" couple of seasons, with a young female doctor, and an older male companion. Yeah, if it had just been whitaker and the old dude, it could have been something. And then they went and messed with the backstory, so that he's not even galifreyan ... sigh. So, yeah, I want a non-human next, then. Because a funny-coloured human just isn't diverse enough, see. :P

The lack of any actual science Fiction in this current doctor is breathtaking. Also how many time does this DR "not know" the answer in this series !! the whole point of the DR is that they know how to fix, fight solve bluff their way out of impossible situations. Im sure Jodie Whittaker is a fabulous actor just not in this show with these scripts. i don't believe Anyone could do anything with the dross that the script writes have churned out. its very sad ...maybe AMAZON will buy the show and bring back the proper writers.

Like honestly theres practically no moments of 13 that I say really stand out to me. Like there are moments that stand out for the others to me. 9 when he changes all the masked people back and says something like "this time everyone lives!" 10 had a bunch; timelord victorious, fires of Pompeii and saving peter capaldi, 3d glasses, swordfight and loosing a hand, alonsy Alonso, I dont want to go. 11 had so many great speeches that I remember, and so did 12. Breaks my heart seeing this happen to one of my favourite shows growing up, was there during the Eccleston and Tennant days when me and most of my family would crowd into our living room to watch them and to this day I still remember watching some of the most impactful episodes like “Satan’s pit” or “Doomsday” which was absolutely heartbreaking, and you felt so attached to the characters, the stories and the subtle messages they were telling....where has this all gone? Why is entertainment like this now? Why is it I can’t play a game or watch a tv show or a film and be bombarded with blatant political agendas and being made to feel it’s my fault for the world’s evil because I’m a white male? I miss the days when we had amazing characters we could root for and watch grow and be attached to, and back then we had diversity that wasn’t shoved in our face, anyone remember Rose? Micky? Martha? Donna? Characters who were well written and were not afraid to stand up for themselves and occasionally the doctor! How we saw all sorts of non-human beings in different dimensions which made you really imagine what was out there in the universe? Nah can’t have that anymore, let’s just tell you about why females and non whites are better than you instead of coming up with a decent story FUCK. YOU. CHRIS for ruining my childhood show, at this rate I hope it dies and so it’s never touched again rather than kicking a dead corpse in the hopes it comes back alive. Sorry for the rant everyone.

Just for context/correction: The (white) heterosexual male gaze is not defined by how many man watch the show or how many male lead characters there are. It is the way that it’s shot, where the camera lingers and so on. Many movies are shot for the male gaze, which does not automatically mean that mostly male people whatch it.

The most dramatic line in Dr. Who previous to the disastrous Jodie Whittaker was by Peter Capaldi when he is freshly regenerated and turns to ask Clara in his thick Scottish brogue, "Am I a good man?" Man, that hit me right in the solar plexus! It is a question understood by all men who are the least-bit introspective. Emotions are a tough equation for most of us (men). Do not expect us to become suddenly touchy-feely! Let's face it, most women do not want men who are like women! It goes directly to the biological imperative! The reason why women are so mysterious to most of us is because of their deeper emotional constructs! We cannot compete at their level and have no real desire to!

I totally agree with the premises set forth in this video! Jodie Whittaker is not the only problem with the show but she has done nothing to improve her part of the equation. Is it not a sort of discrimination to make a character overly emotional just because the actor is female? The most successful shows last for years (in my assessment) chiefly because they have little to no interpersonal drama! Think Law and Order, X-Files, Dragnet (just the facts ma'am), the Simpsons! Leave the ick to the soaps! The Doctor is supposed to be a transcendent figure, not one mired in the lives of his/her companions! I do not care so much about the gender of the Dr. as I do about the consistency of the show! Hell! I thought Michelle Gomez's Missy was brilliant! I don't know if she is a fan, but she made my skin crawl more than any other Master! So many wrong turns with Whittaker! So many missed opportunities! So many meh or worse companions! Enough is enough! The rumor is the Richard Ayoade may be next in line! I loved him in The IT Crowd and think him a logical progression, but the writing needs HUGE improvements as well! Fire Jodie and the writers! Bring in an actor (like Richard) who is a Dr. Who fan and a writing staff that understands the show AT LEAST! I think that every prospective writer should be REQUIRED to binge Tom Baker's and David Tennant's entire seasons and Understand the special sauce that each of them cooks with! I have removed the show from my saved list because of the bad direction the show has taken. I find the 13th Dr. insipidly BORING! Does the staff of the show not understand that it's core audience is men? Men are clueless in general about complex emotional constructs and are turned off by overly-dramatic scenes! Most of us get more drama than we can stomach in our personal lives! Dr Who, and the other shows loved by core-male audiences, are supposed to be ESCAPIST! Look, I am a feminist in every important way! I believe whole-heartedly in equal pay and equal protection. I abhor violence against women! I hate oglers, cat callers and objectifiers! I think women have more to offer the world than men, or at least as much! Simply, I do not want Dr Who to be a soap opera! Who made the decision to destroy the legacy of Dr. Who anyway? What was he/she thinking? Madness!

DW has always been political, now its just too heavy handed. And for the first few series, DW was mainly set in London or Cardiff.

Overdoing is the key here. Gosh I loved dr. Who from the beginning. I grew up and even time traveling thing doesn’t impress me at all. Actually, it’s a bit about generation I guess. Dc movies/tv shows were so good back to the 80s, 90s and even in early 2000s. Now, marvel movies take the lead. However, here’s the thing, I watched old dc movies countless times and even now I can watch them and still enjoy. On the other side, marvel movies are like one time thing. I watch it and that’s it! No need to archive even:( it’s the industry. They make movies, tv shows just to do something to roll the industry. Making money is the only focus unfortunately$$$ so they’re gonna waste everything we had in the past, till every classy character born to the ashes 🤦‍♂️
