lets just be honest, Finn would have made a great main character. His backstory is perfect for being a main character. just imagine, Ex storm trooper becomes a jedi.

People who spend all their free time at one specific gaming table while wearing the same clothes...everyday...is disturbingly common.

Finn being written the way he was in these shit films was completely inexcusable. 10 minutes into TFA and his moral conflict is thrown out the window. They made him into Rey's worthless cowardly sidekick and he never comes into his own as...well anything. It's even worse when they called people racist for acknowledging this, while not realizing how racist his portrayal is. TLJ and TROS aren't even worth mentioning. Finn's characterization is probably the biggest waste of potential since they announced they were making a Star Wars Episode 7 in the first place.

I could bring myself to be ok with the Finn somehow always being rescued by Rey, since the first movie also teased something like the start of a connection between them, and the gender flip is an interesting dynamic change - having played Knights of the Old Republic’s Revan as a female Jedi it’s cool to see something like the resulting game story dynamic on screen. But...... I kept waiting for the balance, the part in the story where you learn what Finn has to offer Rey that makes it reciprocal and satisfying and interesting, and that never happened! So now the first movie becomes unwatchable because you know the lopsided dynamic stays that way and it’s just dumb.

8:30 you know what always pissed me off about that scene? She had a very real chance of killing both of them by doing that which would of 1 totally taken away his sacrifice of finn and 2 killed them both in the process

Thing is, John Boyega is actually a really decent actor. It's one of those situations where I think he realized as soon as The Force Awakens finished he was being brought in just to be "Strong Black Character" which is a shame considering how people actually liked Finn for his personality in the Force Awakens. He had some dumb moments when he...uh...managed to hold his own against Kylo Ren but not a standard First Order Stormtrooper, but he still had an actual character. By The Last Jedi he was just "Black Person" shoved in for diversity with no real thought to his character at all. So honestly, I think Boyega just thought "Fuck it" and started acting in really over the top ways on purpose because he's still going to get paid for his roles in the films and they can't fire him without incurring the wrath of the Woke 14 Year Old White Girl Twitter Army.

This would be a much better film

John, if you're watching this/reading this comment, you're better than fucking Star Wars man. You're WAY better than Star Wars. Don't do another one of these garbo films.

He is the first person you see on the look how diverse and inclusive we are sh1t wars trailer. Then Disney proceeds to turn him in to the black male comic relief character.

The funny thing is Boyega made it all about his skin colour, whereas the fans saw him as comic relief and a bad actor. When he came out and trashed Disney who made his career he simply called them racist because his character and acting being crap didn't result in him being a hero or a bigger part. God forbid we finish this crap with the actual heroes.

Finn and Poe are the same character. Poe took all the heroic aspects of the Finn character and Boyega got to play all the negative ones. The whole film makes more sense if Finn is the amazing pilot and NOT Rey getting off Jakku? (How does Rey know how to fly?) Everything that Poe does is supposed to be Finn but the wrote all the heroic things out of the character for him to play the fool.

He dies saving rose in TLJ. There, that that gives him a complete character arc and preserves the last remnant of his dignity.

Finn could've easily been a fun. interesting, and cool character but they threw that away. I can overlook the first movie with how fast he was willing to defect from any friends/family he had in the first order but the last jedi put him into the worst part of the movie, one that's already a garbage dump, and then proceeded to take away his moment of trying to save everyone, which may have included Luke up to that point though he didn't know it, only to do nothing with him in the follow up other than him shouting at Rey.

Finn's problems boil down to one and only one fact: he is played by a black actor, and a dark one at that, too. how much money did the final trilogy make in China, and all because Finn is black? the Chinese are racist, southern Chinese, who are a little darker, called "dirty" by lighter-skinned, northern Chinese. Each of the movies should've made at least half a billion in China, but they only made a million. Rose Tico, played by Kelly Marie Tran, a Vietnamese-American, was brought on to give the Chinese audiences an Asian, but then Rose Tico-Kelly Marie Tran is what she is, the Jar Jar Binks of the middle movie of the last trilogy, and she's made to lead Finn around by the nose, and Finn is turned into a bungler to be comic relief for the Chinese, but then they have Rose fall in love with him, or have a crush on him, and kiss him, something racist Chinese audiences must've just adored. You don't believe me? Then why was Finn made so much smaller in the poster for the Chinese market than for the American market? Fact: the Chinese, who have very very very very little experience of black people and who have a serious case of colorism, preference for light-skinned people, are racist, or at least have a massive case of colorism about Finn. and look at Lupita Amondi Nyong'o in the movie, like Lou Gossett Jr., in Enemy Mine, the year after he won an academy award, too, her black beautiful face hidden by a mask, in the trilogy and asked to do nothing, literally a character who is barely in the story at all. It's not that Holywood is racist, it's that the Chinese are, and Holywood thinks that white Americans are, too.

This reminds me of a problem I'm seeing with a lot of American movies: character development is relegated to literally one or two lines of dialogue. That's. It. The characters say who they are-once-and then get on with the action/plot. Instead of EVERY scene SHOWING us who the characters are, the dialogue TELLS us. It's lazy and maddening.

I will say this Anakin flirting with Padme was better written then whole sequel trilogy

I had such high hopes for Finn when I first saw the trailer, I thought he was going to be this storm trooper that rebelled, and became a Jedi. But instead we got a someone who was just there to be the black guy.

This man proves that art imitates life he has struggled like the every day man to get where he is now and doesn't delude himself about what he thinks characters should be instead it's about how they should or would be depending on there trauma ,personality and adversity or lack there of.

Wow. This convinced me that The Last Jedi may not have been a good story, but a good idea for a story. It's amazing how making many tweaks while still maintaining most of the major plot beats of the original script, this movie could have been amazing.

Think I’ve watched this a dozen times at this point. Would have been amazing.

Finn and Rose were the Mr. and Mrs. Diversity Checkbox, with a sprinkle of comic relief and smidgen of romantic awwww.

Disney could have easily made a Star Wars movie titled, Rise Of The Storm Troopers, and had them hating both the Jedi and The Sith, and had them going about the galaxy attempting to annihilate both The Jedi and The Sith in their ever going war for balance. The Rise Of The Storm Troopers could have been a representation of the people wanting to end the forever pointless wars. Finn could have been written to be that one Storm Trooper, who took his helmet off first and lead to the Rise Of The Storm Troopers. Even putting in the movie that the force doesn't work on the Storm Troopers due to their years of being slaves and servants and having observed how the Force works and how they developed their minds to counter it.

I would love to hear how the Drinker would fix the last movie in the Disney Trilogy because I have said it before and I say it again, this is absolutely brilliant and makes me genuinely interested to see how the story ends! :)

In respect to the janitor comments, Marines aboard USN vessels are often assigned to clean and maintain much of the ship as a secondary assignment, so Finn cleaning things aboard ship isn’t that far out of reality. If there’s one thing Soldiers/Marines know it’s how to run a mop n floor waxer when we’re not training to fight.

I've thought of ways to fix Finn since they screwed him with tLJ. Finn could've been the coolest 2nd balck jedi ever. Instead he was a nobody resistance fighter just like he was as a stormtrooper.

Damn, even with the crappy original script mostly intact, this is WAY better than the original ^^; Poor guy got done dirty, was looking forward to a storyline with exploring the Stormtroopers rather dark past. But alas....

The casting was garbage to begin with. For decades, we’ve been waiting for a badass soldier character (who isn’t a Jedi) & when the opportunity to write one into the story comes along, they fuck it up by casting John Boyega. An actor with the gravitas of a Kenan & Kel extra, the chubby cheeks of a cherubic chipmunk, & the stature of a fucking Ewok. This is supposed to be the highly trained space soldier? Give me a break, & then give me an actor like Aldis Hodge portraying a character similar to the Republic Commando from the SWTOR cinematics. That’s what I wanted to see

Nice rework. I actually did something similar while playing a Star Wars RPG. I played an engineer who had been wounded on a mission and left behind. He was then blamed for the loss of his entire squad, labeled as a traitor and presumed dead. This let him know a lot about the ships and tech of the Empire. He wasn't a front line trooper however, and had never done anything directly to hurt civilians. He just fixed ships, and set up buildings. It actually worked pretty well, and left him with a lot of mixed feelings as he ended up as part of the resistance, and didn't want to kill the empire just because they were "the bad guys." I miss DN-113 aka Dan.

Him being a former stormtrooper was SO FUCKING WASTED! He goes through no actual struggle with having to betray his former comrades, the film doesn’t show him being forced to commit war crimes and slowly breaking his conditioning etc I always found it weird how they established that him and the others were slave soldiers and establishes humanity behind the helmets, then shows him whooping and having fun killing his former comrades and treats stormtrooper deaths as comedy afterwards. Like why bother humanising them if you then dehumanise them afterwards. The weird cognitive dissonance shown in the writing is jarring and weird.

I thought Finn's story could have been an interesting one. They really should have axed Rey out of the film and tied in Finn's story to the Saga. It would have made a more compelling story.
